Description: The yellow fever 17D vaccine was developed in the 1930s and has been a very effective and safe vaccine with over 600 million doses distributed. Although the vaccine has been in use for nearly 80 years, we still do not understand the mechanism(s) of attenuation or immunogencity. We have been using next generation sequencing to investigate 17D vaccine and evidence will be presented that attenuation is at least in part due to lack of quasispecies population on the vaccine virus.
