Description: High-throughput sequencing is rapidly expanding beyond the confines of large research centers to become a mainstream tool for biological research. To put this rapidly evolving technology in perspective, popular second- and third-generation sequencing technologies will be explored by describing two high-throughput applications in infectious disease research: pathogen sequencing and characterization of the immune system.
