Description:
High-throughput sequencing is rapidly improving our understanding of microbial community dynamics. Large sequencing efforts such as the Human Microbiome and the Earth Microbiome Projects are rapidly expanding our understanding of the roles that microbes have in our own bodies and in the environment. With this workshop, my goal is to introduce QIIME (quantitative insights into microbial ecology), a pipeline tool for the analysis of large microbial community sequence datasets. I will demonstrate how the QIIME pipeline can be used in tasks ranging from the preprocessing of large barcoded sequence datasets to the the generation and visualization of community based statistics, thus facilitating community level comparisons across different environment types, gradients and more.
